Projects

GwyrddNi is working with local schools to present sessions on climate change, visit local climate solutions and support pupils to develop and implement their own community ideas. We also offer 'Ysgolion Creadigol GwyrddNi' (creative schools) which brings children and young people together with creative practitioners to form and creatively share their climate messages with their community. We have worked with hundreds of pupils, and we are currently developing plans to work with children and young people outside of a school context.

The Bro Ffestiniog Uniform swap saw 300kg of school uniforms repurposed and reused in 2024, with five local schools participating. Children helped to decorate donation bins, while GwyrddNi and Cwmni Bro Ffestiniog organised collection, washing, and distributing the uniforms. The aim is for the uniform swap to be an annual event at the end of the school year and for the idea to spread to other schools.

The Llŷn Cycling Strategy Group was established in October 2023 with representatives from the GwyrddNi Assembly, Darganfod Llŷn, O Ddrws i Ddrws, The National Trust, Canolfan Fenter Congl Meinciau, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor (Staff and students), EcoAmgueddfa, Canolfan Pen y Graig and Sustrans. Several electric bikes have been gifted or loaned from Sustrans, and people can now become members of Hwb Beics Pen Llŷn for £20 a month, which enables them to borrow an electric bike. Feedback so far has been very positive!

The Mapio Mwsog project in Dyffryn Ogwen aims to record and survey mosses and liverworts with hand lenses, microscopes and the naked eye, and to create a map at nine specific points in Dyffryn Ogwen. The Mapio Mwsog team - Emily Meillieur, Alys Wardle, Emily Farrell and Catherine Moss, who are supported by GwyrddNi and Partneriaeth Ogwen - have led several moss walks since the project launched in October 2023.

The Pickling Shed offers a space for people to learn about and take part in workshops around preserving food. The idea arose as a way to deal with excess food grown in the local community gardens, but also offers the opportunity for people to learn something our grandmothers knew well - the art of pickling and preserving food.

Stori’r Tir is a creative project gathering and sharing stories of our relationship to land in Dyffryn Peris. Stori’r Tir aims are to bring the community together to capture the wisdom of previous generations, promote identity and connection to the land, creativity and the Welsh language. So far there have been 15 projects, with more in development.
