GwyrddNi’s Education Programme is in full swing!
During 2022-2023 we worked with 19 schools across the five GwyrddNi areas of work, which are Dyffryn Nantlle, Dyffryn Ogwen, Dyffryn Peris, Bro Ffestiniog and Pen Llŷn.
The Education Programme included a variety of sessions on climate change and local climate solutions, along with an opportunity to visit a range of climate solutions in each community.
Following this each school hosted a Climate Assembly, which gave learners the opportunity to discuss, discuss and prioritise their own local community climate solutions. Then learners will get to share their priorities with a Community Assembly on the Climate that will be held in their community during the same period.

The pupils also received support to implement one of their priority solutions, in partnership with a community organisation if relevant (e.g planting trees, establishing a method of passing on old school clothes, learning fresh food cooking skills, working with a creative practitioner to create a film to share message about climate solutions with the community).

Going forward, GwyrddNi’s education work will continue, with a range of activities and a chance for collaboration available to schools and colleges in the five areas, and plans to develop learning opportunities for adults are underway.
All these activities provide a focus for the school’s eco council, an opportunity for learners to discover more about climate solutions. They provide opportunities to develop learner voice, perhaps to help learners complete the Welsh Baccalaureate, and provide a great opportunity to build more relationships and links between the schools and organisations and groups in their community.
