The first Pen Llŷn Community Assembly on the Climate took place in July 2022.
Fifty people from the area, who have been selected as Assembly members attended the first Assembly to meet and get to know each other, and make a start on the work of co-creating an Action Plan for the area.
During these first sessions the members discussed their hopes and fears about the assembly process and their experience of climate change. We also heard from local people and experts, and started to discuss and map out what resources and projects already exist locally.

During the session there was a live chat on Zoom with Siôn Williams, a commercial fisherman from Sarn Mellteyrn. Siôn has a boat in Porth Colmon and cages along the coast of Llŷn from there towards Enlli. In the discussion Siôn talked about the changes he has seen in the seas of Llŷn due to climate change. He has a wide interest and knowledge of the sea habitat and collaborated with Bangor University to monitor marine and ecological changes.

Also during the day there was a presentation by Dr Prysor Williams, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Management at Bangor University. He is a lecturer and farmer who has done a lot of work on the interrelationship between agriculture and the environment in the context of climate change.

The assembly also had a presentation given by Dr Einir Young, former Director of Sustainability at Bangor University. In her presentation Dr Young talks about Llŷn’s Eco-museum, and also sets out a framework for responding to the climate crisis.
